Menstruation or menstruation is a monthly cycle that is always experienced by women who are grown or have had their first menstruation. During menstruation then the body gives some reaction as a result of changes in the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
Some of the complaints most commonly perceived by women are such as weak, highly tired bodies, abdominal cramps, restless feet, abdominal pain, headaches and some other symptoms that cause the body to be uncomfortable. During menstruation then women often want to eat and drink some kind of food. But apparently one of the things to avoid is ice. All women will definitely avoid the ice being menstruating.
The following is what will happen when drinking ice water when menstruation
1. Stopping uterine contractions
A study developed in China proves that drinking ice during menstruation can cause uterine contractions to stop. When you are menstruating then the uterus continues to perform contraction movement to release all blood from the uterine wall. When you drink the ice and the uterus does not work then it causes no blood that continues to freeze in the uterus. It is characterized by bleeding that stops faster but the blood is not clean.
2. Increases potential cramps
Cramping is most common during menstruation. Cramps are often characterized by severe pain in the lower abdomen. It is actually a normal reaction because the uterus performs a very strong contraction to shed all blood. But drinking ice could make the uterus movement more quickly stopped and all the blood parts in the uterus can't get out. If this continues to occur then the cramps will be more painful and often occurs in the next period, because the uterus should work stronger to cleanse the blood that has already been frozen.
3. Causes inflammation
If you drink ice or ice cream during menstruation it can make the inflammatory condition become more severe. This is due to ice cream or ice can lead to increased process of release of prostaglandins. If too many prostaglandins are out then inflammation and cramps will become worse. In addition, all types of ice made or containing dairy ingredients should also be avoided because it can improve the more severe cramping attacks. It can even cause flatulence and the body becomes weaker.
4. Making the body become more fat
During menstrual periods, the female body is actually experiencing many changes. When drinking ice during menstruation, it can cause severe fat buildup in the stomach. These fats will ruin your appearance and make you become unconfident. Ice has a cold temperature and our body basically has room temperature or heat. If there are many cold temperatures that go into the body then it can slow down the metabolic process. Stomach will hold all the cold liquids from the ice entering the stomach and the longer or more often it can cause abdominal fat to accumulate.
5. Increases bone brittle risk
Women have a very close relationship between menstruation and bone health problems. When women drink ice during menstruation it can decrease the body's ability to absorb calcium. Women at least need calcium with a minimum amount of 800 mg per day, and that amount can not be fulfilled if too much ice to drink. Low absorption of calcium during menstruation also often causes severe menstrual and cramps pain. Moreover because the body is not able to absorb calcium as needed then there is a risk of fragile bone disease.
