Phlegm is a type of thick mucus in the throat. Usually, phlegm can come out when coughs. There are several types of phlegm, namely a dilute phlegm, viscous phlegm, yellow phlegm, and green phlegm.


Cough with phlegm in children, cough with phlegm caused by viral or bacterial infections. This cough occurs when the child's respiratory tract is irritated causing mucous or phlegm.

2. Increase fluid consumption

A well-hydrated body can dilute phlegm. The more dilute sputum will be easily wasted. So if your child is still a baby then multiply it and give it breast milk and white water (over 6 months).

If your child is a toddler or older then give him a lot of white water. Prepare a menu of food that has a gravy so that the child can get enough fluids. This can make his forehead wasted and his breath back relieved.

3. Gargle with warm salt water

If cough with phlegm the child is not lost. Ask her to gargle with warm salt water.

Phlegm in the lungs and throat can be removed by mouthwash. You can prepare warm brine by mixing 1/2 tsp of salt with a glass of warm water.

4. Drink warm lemon water

Give the child a warm lemon drink as she coughs the phlegm. But don't be too much so she does not experience indigestion.

Like other spices, lemon contains substances that can help reduce the production of excess sputum when the child coughs. Lemon can also help to produce stubborn phlegm.

5. Give honey to children

Honey has been proven to contain substances that are antiviral and antibacterial. This makes the honey can cope with the disease that makes the child to phlegm. When the disease is cured, it can also reduce symptoms, namely phlegm.

Children who consume honey when having phlegm will find it helpful because the production of phlegm can be reduced. You can give honey to your child by mixing it in warm white water or warm tea. However, please note that infants under 1 year old are advised not to be given honey.

6. Inhale steam

The child's sputum can also be done by inhaling steam. Pour the warm water in the basin. Mix the eucalyptus Oil sparingly into the warm water.

Close the child's position with the basin or ask the child to inhale the steam inside the basin so that the child can inhale the steam. This steam can make phlegm become more dilute and easily removed.

7. Warm up the body

Phlegm will be easy out when the child's body is warm. Therefore, try to bring the child a shower or briefly soak in the warm water so that his body is hot and his forehead is easily removed.
